Have you ever seen a movie that shook you in a way you couldn't believe??Have you ever seen a movie that's so painful to watch but in a good way??? Well, I did, and I'm here to tell you all about it.
Imagine a life where you're held captive in a dark room, fed disgusting food maybe once a week, get a brief, forceful bath, someone comes in and beats you up so much that you black out, you're tied to a chair, and if you want to pee or shit, you have to do it on a bowl below the chair!!!

And this is the movie Martyrs, a French psychological horror film released in 2008. The story follows two women, Lucie (played by Mylène Jampanoï) and Anna (Morjana Alaoui), on a journey of revenge for Lucy's childhood trauma, BUT it's not just that; Lucy sees a ghost that's physically hurting her every day since childhood. Writer, Director Pascal Laugier, shows the characters go through so much physically and emotionally so thoroughly that it's uncomfortable to watch. It explores Catholic themes of martyrdom in a way that makes you feel disgusted, depressed, shocked, and angry at the same time. The film is R-rated, and the makers leave no stone unturned to show it. It is so gory and violent that you feel helpless. But let me also tell you, the film raises a bigger question: HOW FAR CAN HUMANS GO TO SATISFY THEIR CURIOSITY AND NEEDS???

The journey of Anna is truly terrifying; her pain throughout the film increases and never really stops. Her helplessness and vulnerability make you feel pain you've never even experienced. Morjana Alaoui and Mylène Jampanoï have done a fabulous job portraying Lucie and Anna. I want to end it here by commending the prosthetics and makeup department of this film, who have done an amazing job and truly deserve recognition for their work.
If you are squeamish, PLEASE DON'T WATCH THIS FILM!!! But if you're not, then this is a MUST WATCH!!!!
