Since the pandemic, Comic book movies are at an all-time low, whether it’s MCU or DCEU, no film is able to hit the billion, sure few made it close like The Batman, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, But Why only t these two are the only superhero movies that managed to hit the billion-dollar club. Is it really superhero movie fatigue??? Are people actually tired of watching CBMs???
Here's my take,
Now it is undeniable that both of these movies have gotten a big push because of the cameos and marketing. But one needs to also take it into account that the cameos that were present in them weren't wasted or out of place. Just think about it, In Spiderman No Way Home, we get a closure for Andrew's Peter from The Amazing Spiderman movies. Tobey in the end guides Tom Holland's Spiderman to not go over the line when he was almost about to kill Green Goblin. Moreover, both Tobey and Andrew's Peters provide guidance and support to the MCU Peter when he was at his lowest. Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and the Spidey Villains were too iconic as well.
In Deadpool & Wolverine; we get to see the characters from the Fox Universe that were either forgotten, like Wesley Snipes' Blade, Jennifer Garner's Elektra, or Chris Evans' Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch. Or characters who deserved better, like Changing Tatum's Gambit, the movie that was canceled, or Sabretooth. The comic accurate Wolverines and John Favreau’s heartwarming Happy all shine up the screen.
But apart from the cameos, both of these movies are classic adaptations of the characters; No Way Home had Aunt May dying, Spidey sacrificing everything to protect the people he loved—these are all classic Spiderman traits.
Similarly, Deadpool & Wolverine have Deadpool's classic 4th wall breaks, an absolute wild-wild intro, his unhinged humor, Wolverine's grunts (lol), and his constant try to not be a hero only to be one at the very end. All of these provide a really fun time at the movies, and that's what the Deadpool franchise is all about. I honestly don't understand the criticism these movies get. Like, what more do you want???
Anyways, I think this post is more of me expressing my love for these movies than an analysis.
